The Jalada Mobile Literary & Arts Festival is a hybrid between a traditional place-based festival and a bus tour.
The tour will cover 5 countries (12 towns): Kenya (Nairobi, Nakuru, Kisumu, Mombasa), Uganda (Kampala, Kabale), DRC (Goma), Rwanda (Kigali) and Tanzania (Mwanza, Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar).
The festival will celebrate diversity and create living connections between writers, artists, and diverse audiences in the big cities and small towns across East Africa.
The Dar es Salaam leg is a two-days series of activities including panel discussions, performances, masterclasses and workshops.
This leg will be co-produced by Nafasi Art Space in Mikocheni B, where all events will take place.
The festival program features Jalada Masterclasses on Creative Writing & Travel Writing. The masterclass will be facilitated by Amy Gigi Alexander, Writer of Panorama Journal of Intelligent Travel, and Richard Ali and Richard Oduor Oduku – both from Jalada Africa.
The Children’s Poetry Workshop, to nurture talent among the young, will be facilitated by Joanna Brown from Africa Writes (UK).
Nafasi Art Space presents CHAP CHAP Narratives and Illustration to headline the afternoon – Public Art Workshop, featuring the work of resident visual artists.
The evening will be graced by literary readings from writers from Jalada Africa and Nafasi Art Space. Spoken word performance, by Kenyan artist and filmmaker, Ngartia will also bless the evening. To crown the evening, we invite you to a musical showcase by Mapao Jazz.
All events are free and will be at Nafasi Art Space, on 25th and 26th March.
The Dar event is generously supported by DANIDA.
